Weekly Review 24.1.14

The Bad News Arrives…...

Both surgical sites healing well. MRI scan looks clear. HCG levels falling: 15-12-8……. 12 (within tolerance?)….. 34 (definitely not). There's a secondary in there somewhere; feel like Kane in Alien. Damn! - thought I could dodge the bullet. Hmm, stats say 50% will do the same within 12 months of surgery: maybe I just lost the coin toss?

Meeting with Oncologist - no longer eligible for 111 trial (1 cycle BEP) - 4 cycles of EP/PE recommended instead (lasting 4-5 months). Downside gone through at length - upside is a 'high percentage chance of being cured'. Seems like a game of really high stakes poker against Mr G Reaper to me (only you get beaten up every month - despite joining the Bruce Willis fan club).

Just over a week to go - mad rush to clear desk; cases to be closed - tax return to file - arrgh! HMRC (IRS if you're on the other side of the pond) advises that having multiple surgery and outpatient appointments is 'not an excuse' for not filing by 31st January; must wait for the inevitable penalty and appeal that. Thanks guys, you're real humanitarians. On the plus side, receive helpful advice that a tax return does not have to be filed, if you are dead [sic].

Memo to self: suggest to Mr Reaper that he connects with these people first (LinkedIn, Final Destination; whatever).
